EXPLORE MOSCOW → MOSCOW FOR CHILDRENMoscow offers good opportunities for family fun, if you travel with children:
Moscow Circuses: the children of every age will definitely enjoy it, either on the old stage on Tsetnoy Boulevard (Nikulin Circus) or on the new stage on Prospect Vernadskogo (The Great Moscow State Circus). The shows are filled with many short lively acts from flying acrobats and illusionists to trained elephants and daredevil horseback riding at a level of artistry that is considered another form of art. Try to arrive 20-30 minutes before the show, as in the circus foyers you will find dozens of things for kids amusement: ice-cream and candy shops, taking pictures with live animals, jumping castles, clowns and fakirs.
Gorky Park: offers roller-coasters, train rides, carrousels and other fun park attractions in a pleasant area next to the Moskva river and a large wooded park.
Moscow Zoo: centrally located just a stroll away from the Sheraton Palace Hotel. Today it is home to over 5,000 animals and birds including numerous rare and exotic species like: Przewalski's wild horses, musk oxen with magnificent sharply-bent horns, deers, Siberian tigers, gray snow leopards etc. The zoo's Monkey and Cat Houses and aquariums are great favorites with kids, as well as children's playgrounds, toy shops and cafes.
Bolshoy Theatre: the language of the ballet doesn’t require translation, most performances are based on well known fairytales and legends (Swan Lake, Cinderella) and could be a memorable experience for children and parents alike. Visit website
Obraztsov Puppet Theatre: this world’s famous puppet house often hosts international puppet festivals and contests and it’s own performances are delightful, though might require a little knowledge of Russian. Visit website
Ice-Skating: in winter 2006-2007 there was a huge ice-skating rink built right on the Red Square, which very fast became popular with Muscovites and tourists alike. Other places to recommend would be the open-air skating in Gorky Park (if the weather allows) or in the large modern Krylatskoye Skating Center.
Rollerblading: indoor rollerblading rink can be found at the Center Na Tulskoy – a large fun place also featuring pool tables, bowing alley and bars. However the skater’s favorite in the Victory park. Adrenalin skatepark being equipped with special bowls and ramps is Moscow’s paradise for extreme skaters.
