EXPLORE MOSCOW → OSTANKINO ESTATEOstanino Estate with its palace and theatre is an outstanding masterpiece of the Russian neoclassicism and is considered one of the finest in Moscow. The idea of building the palace-theatre belongs to the Count Nikolay Sheremetiev, one of the wealthiest magnates in the end of 18th century. The theatre was unique for its time, since it incorporated remarkable technical solutions: the floor could be raised and lowered within minutes to transform the stage into a ballroom. The palace consists of a range of halls: the Egyptian Hall, the Italian Hall, the Picture Gallery, the Blue Hall and the Purple Drawing-Hall. All rooms are decorated with gilded carvings and the parquet floors are the works of art on their own.
