EXPLORE MOSCOW → STATE PUSHKIN MUSEUM OF THE FINE ARTThe world-famous Museum of Fine Art is a major center for the study of Western European art in Russia, second only in importance and scope to the renowned Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The idea of creating a collection which would cover all periods in the development of world art history received the public approval in the mid-19th century. Today more then a million original paintings and graphic works, and even more sculptures and objects of applied art, the unique collection of 6000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, some ninety 13th -16th century Italian art works, a fine selection of the Flemish masters including van Dyck, Rubens and Rembrandt, one of the world’s largest collection of impressionists including E. Manet, Degat, Renoir, C. Monet and Renoir, large series of post-impressionism masterpieces by Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Chagall and Kandinsky, have gained the Museum considerable status among the major world museums.
