EXPLORE MOSCOW → TVERSKAYA STREETTverskaya (in the Soviet period - Gorky) street is the main street of Moscow. Known since the 14th century it became the city’s major thoroughfare in the 15th – 17th centuries, when relations with north-western Russian principalities, primarily Tver and Novgorod, began to play an important part in Moscow’s economy. Another impact was given to its development in the 18th century when the new capital of St. Petersburg was founded in the north. Today it is a fashionable avenue with plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and attractions turning a walk from Sheraton Palace to the Kremlin and Red Square into a pleasant experience.
